The Charlotte Roller Girls Look to Dazzle in Greenville

CLTRGDebyDames101009The Charlotte Roller Girls return to the track on Saturday, October 10 when its secondary team, the B Dazzlers, travel to Greenville, South Carolina to take on the Greenville Derby Dames. The B Dazzlers, looking for its first win of the 2009 season, last competed in May.

“We’ve steadily improved since our first bout in February,” said team captain Megan Giacobbe a.k.a. Scarlett A. Sassin. “More time to practice together and fresh talent in our league means we’re heading to Greenville well prepared and ready to bring home our first win.”

The B Dazzlers are no strangers to the Derby Dames’ ability. Several months ago, the team scrimmaged with a handful of Greenville players.

“They are a fairly new team but they have some veteran skaters who should not be underrated,” said Giacobbe. “When we scrimmaged, they put up a very strong fight. We expect more of the same on Saturday.”

In an effort to gain more insight to the competition, the team recently sent a contingent to Greenville to watch the Derby Dames compete.

“To help us prepare, a group of us traveled to Greenville to watch them bout,” continued Giacobbe. “Because of that, we have a much better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. If we don’t get the result we are hoping for, it will not be for a lack of preparation.”

The bout takes place at The Pavilion Recreation Complex located at 400 Scottswood Rd. in Taylor, South Carolina. Tickets are available in advance for $10 at www.brownpapertickets.com or for $12 at the door.

The next home bout for the Charlotte Roller Girls is on December 6 at the Grady Cole Center. Dubbed the Battle of the Ages: Cougars vs. Kittens, this event is a fan appreciation night and will seek to answer the question – youth or experience? All your favorite Charlotte Roller Girls will battle head to head in a competition. The nearly 40 players in the league will be split into two teams based upon age. Those aged 34 and under will make up the Kittens while those 35 and older will be the Cougars.

Ticket prices for the Battle of the Ages bout have been lowered. All adult tickets are $10, instead of $14 at the door, while all kids tickets are $5. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with the bout starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now here or in person at The Common Market. The Grady Cole Center is located at 310 N. Kings Drive. Access to the after party event, held at the Dilworth Neighborhood Grille 911 E. Morehead Street, is included with the purchase of every adult ticket.
