This Saturday, May 1st at the Grady Cole Center, the Charlotte Roller Girls (CLTRG) will host a Charm City Roller Girls (CCRG) Night Terrors – a hard-hitting, speed-jamming crew from the tough streets of Baltimore, Maryland.
Led by captains “Jilli Idol” and “Blind Banshee”, CCRG Night Terrors will be the first opponent from a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) league faced by Charlotte Roller Girls’ All-Stars since being named a WFTDA Apprentice League. The Night Terrors are one of 4 home teams (like CLTRG’s Fraid Knots), and finished third place in a recent CCRG home season. Saturday, 3 skaters from Charm City All-Stars will be on the roster, and most are from CCRG B Team (Female Trouble). Their All-Stars play on the national level and just returned from a western tour against some tough high-ranking WFTDA teams like Rose City and Rat City!
The CLTRG All-Stars captains “Amy Fister” (Haley Blaska) and “Rosie Cheeks” (Rosemary Gardner), however, are not intimidated. “We’re ready to show these Baltimore girls our special brand of Southern hospitality,” said Rosie, “the kind that sometimes leaves a bruise.” Returning to the track after a brief attempt at retirement is CLTRG founder “Lucy Kwipment” (Cress Barnes)! She enjoyed co-announcing the first 2 home bouts of 2010, and is eager to get back to what she does best: Hitting the jammer hard and playing with her veteran teammates, like “BoToxic Bruz’her”, “Jack the Maniac”, and “Pamela Ander-Slam”! Also, making her debut on the All-Stars roster this weekend is “Les Whip~it” (Leslie Brandon), who has played in several tough bouts with the B-Dazzlers.
Taking Lucy Kwipment’s place as co-announcer with The Clown is Professor Lou Botomy, all the way from Wilmington, NC! You will recognize his signature jacket and sharp wit from several bouts over the past 3 years! The night will also include entertainment from hula-hooping wonders The Hoopers, a return by Christina Navarro to sing the National Anthem, and music by DJ Spider! Also, fans can show support for our partners by picking up official CLTRG merchandise and a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon to complete the experience!
To join the action, get your advance tickets for only $10 at The Common Market or Sleepy Poet Antique Mall while supplies last, or online here. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $14. The doors open Saturday, May 1st at 5:30PM and the bout begins at 6 PM — so plan to get there early in case of another sold-out crowd!
The Grady Cole Center is located at 310 N. Kings Drive. Access to the official after party event, held at the Dilworth Neighborhood Grille911 E. Morehead Street, is included with the purchase of every adult ticket.
